A high screeching noise tore Hiccup out of his
wing-beat induced trance.
He couldn’t remember when he and Toothless
had first taken flight-- it seemed like it was hours, maybe days ago.
All he knew was that he’d been staring at bobbing, monotonous sea
below, squinting for poking rocks or landmarks so intensely, for so
long, that his vision was full of waves even after he focused back on
the sky between the auricles of his flying companion. He blinked,
frowning.
